We call this “Shearer’s Choice” because the idea for this line came from dealing with a local shearer who has been selling us wool for years. Dorset sheep have a helical (circular) crimp while a lot of wool crimps in a straight wave. The helical crimp gives the wool more loft which makes this product great for folks spinning and knitwear products. If you want a lot of texture in a needle or fabric felt product this might be worth playing with as well. Previous versions of this product included Polypay as well, which has similar properties. We’re planning to replace the Dorset with Cheviot for future versions, which we imagine will further improve the loftiness of this great product. We blend local dark wool with the Dorset to get this great shade.
